Delta Kappa Gamma (founded in 1929) is an international Society (100,000 belonging to over 2900 international chapters) of outstanding women educators where a nurturing environment encourages all members to grow and reach the highest levels of professional and personal development. Members include classroom teachers, college and university professors, administrators, supervisors, librarians, counselors, and educational specialists dedicated to a mission of professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Eta Chapter was chartered on June 17, 1939 in Durham, North Carolina. The thirteen charter members were Myrtle Albright, Ann Gardiner, Marguerite Herr, Ethel Holloway, Maggie Holloway, Lillie Jones, Mary Mason, Matilda Michaels, Susie Michaels, Alice Robinson, Maude Rogers, Vera Twadell and Evelyn Taverna.
Eta Chapter is a part of the North Carolina State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Over the years, the chapter grew immensely and eventually sponsored one chapter in Orange and Chatham Counties, Alpha Pi, and three chapters in Durham and Person Counties, Beta Iota, Beta Kappa and Delta Gamma. Eta Chapter is located in Region V and encompasses Durham and Person Counties, with a proud history of securing positive, inclusive development in the present and advancing that development into the future.
